When it comes to cellular technology, improvements and upgrades are very consistent themes. Many big name brands of various technological devices and components aim to improve technology with every new product put on the market, such as USB devices. While the USB 2.0 was first released in 2000 with the bandwidth changing from 12 Mbit/s to 480 Mbit/s, there have been extreme changes in the past 17 years. Take the iPhone, for example. The most recent iPhone model was released in September 2016 and did not have a traditional 3.5mm audio jack. While some users were angered at the perceived loss of convenience, the phone offered other capabilities that previous models did not.
It seems as though Apple will be continuing the trend of making constant updates to technology. The new iPhone 8 will not be equipped with a lightning port; instead, it will have a USB-C port, the newest on the market. Not only that, but it will be the main connection source for all external devices and charging.
The biggest benefit of Apple’s strategic switch is that the iPhone 8 will now have the ability to connect with some of Apple’s newer devices, such as the Macbook Pro.
With all of Apple’s recent success, they have made big plans to expand their location in Midtown Manhattan. The square footage of the store will be increased from 32,000 to 77,000 by the end of 2018. This flagship location is one of the most popular Apple stores in the world. Visitors can actually descend underground to browse iPhones and iPads, and the store is also open 24 hours a day.
The new design is also being implemented in other flagship stores around the world. The concept, developed by retail chief Angela Ahrendts and designer Jony Ive, is intended to feature more places for customers to gather and expanded areas for business-related customers.
“We are reinventing the role our stores and employees play in the community,” Ahrendts told Fortune last year. “We want to be more like a town square, where the best of Apple comes together and everyone is welcome.”
